Price for a USAF General Officer's Service 9MM
A friend of mine is a retired USAF general. He kept his special issue Beretta 9MM when he retired, but has no interest in guns. He's willing to sell it, but neither of us has any idea what it might be worth. As friends, I'm sure we'll agree to a price less than book value, but I don't want to pay a ridiculous amount, either high or low. The pistol was fired about 3 times for a total of about 150 rounds. There isn't a mark on the piece. Can someone please give me some idea of this gun's approximate "Blue Book" value?

We need a little more information.
Does his pistol have a serial number prefix of "GO", indicating it is a General Officers model? Does the proposed sale include the government bill of sale with his name on it?

EDIT: There is no listing for this gun in S. Fjestads's Blue Book of Gun Value. I have never seen one offered for sale, as they often stay in the officer's family. IIRC, 1911A1's have sold for $2-3K. I'm thinking like Perry Shooter, you don't want to insult the guy. The price he paid will be shown on the Purchase Order (TACOM-RI Form 25-2), & that price varies depending upon the replacement price. My guess is that price is $600-700, so I'd think the minimum to offer a friend without insulting him would be $1,500. Not knowing the REAL value, I'd still offer a stranger $2K for one as you describe.0 -
Yes, it is the model custom-honed for a general officer and has the GO prefix in the serial number. This is the special service pistol he was issued by the USAF in 2003 and has his name on the paperwork. He'd sell it to me with all the government special-issue paperwork and include a letter of provenance. 0 -
Wow that would be NICE If it were mine and even if I had no interest in keeping it.No way I would sell, it would stay in the family . This man must think very highly of you . I would think $1000.00 would be a nice round figure. worth much more down the road but not an INSULT today. Be interested in what others say. 0 -

From 1982 to 1986 the standard M1911A-1 .45 automatic pistol was once again issued. The Beretta 9mm M-9 began to be issued August 1986 with serial number GO001. The M9s issued to Generals had no distinguishing marks or features other than the special serial number range. It is a short recoil, semi-automatic, single action/double action pistol. The finish is black steel with composition grips. As of 2009, it is still the weapon issued to Generals in both the Army and the Air Force.

Fairlane66...I agree with nmyers. General officer weapons are in a special category all by themselves. If it was me, and he was my friend, I would offer him $2k for the weapon which in my book would be fair to both parties, but also ask that he give me a letter with the weapons information memorialized for the file. You are buying a piece of history which hardly ever comes up and will hold its value forever. Lucky you! 0
