Sources for gun history and value

I received the guns and prices guide 4th edition as a gift and cannot find quite a few guns in there that I'm trying to gather general info on for a friend who has inherited some guns. I do not know how to post pics so thats not an option. Can I get some general info and ballpark value from keep it for sentimental value or it's potentially valuable would be good enough. I can't find anything on a Winchester Model 97 shotgun-I see them here but have found that there is an extreme variance from actual worth from what people ask. I also can't find anything on a Springfield 1906 Express,serial # in the 20, 000 range, and it has a Lyman All Weather Alaskan Scope-any collector value to that? I found some info on a Winchester Model 03 22 automatic but any info would be great. This friend has no interest in selling any of this, it would just be nice to be able to tell him what he's got. Thanks for any info you can supply.

For the Winchesters, start with posting the serial number of each (that will allow me to determine when they were made).
For the Model 97, please answer the following;
1. Variation
2. Gauge
3. Barrel length
4. Choke
In order to provide you with a value assessment, we will need to know what the graded condition is. If you do not know how to accurately assess the graded condition, your only option is to post pictures... and there are instructions posted in the Ask The Experts forum (a Sticky) on how to post pictures on Gunbroker.0 -
