Colt Python Grips

I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on some Colt grips that I have. I believe there for a Colt Python but I am not absolutely sure. They are for a larger frame judging from the area that is cut out on the inside of the grips when comparing them to a Colt Diamondback grip frame. They appear to be in overall excellent condition plus they have Silver medalions in them instead of Gold ones. Does this indicate anything as far as age goes. Their of a dark reddish brown color.[?]

    I installed factory Colt Python grips that are not numbered to the gun.

    Looking at the back of the grips, there's a 1/8" gap between the bottom of the frame and the wood. Is this normal or did certain era Pythons have different length butts?

    Are you sure they are Python grips. Colt has some different size frames.

    I didn't know Python grips were numbered to the gun. I've had a few and I don't think a little gap between the bottom of the frame and top of the wood is all that unusual. Python grips will also fit the Officers Model, OM Trooper but those are all the same frame, grips for other frames generally will not fit at all.

    Judging by the checkering pattern I'd say you have the late '70s version of Python grips. The gap at the bottom is a bit more than average, but nothing to worry about. They appear to otherwise look fine. And if you paid anywhere near $200.00 for them I'd say you did well.

    Thanks for all the input. Sounds like the fit is typical.

    dfletcher, I paid $150 in Oct '08. Expensive grips but the market dictates the price.

    Excellent buy - mostly I see them about $225.00. Hard to believe we used to regularly switch these out for something aftermarket years ago.
