300 whisper
I have recently acquired a 300 whisper in an AR platform and am gearing up to reload for it. I am using AA#9 powder and a 220 grain Siera bullet.
I dont have a manual yet and all the load DAta ive found on this caliber doesnt give COL. Is it safe to assume that if it fits in the AR type magazine that the COL is what it should be? If not can any of you point me in the direction of some good load data for this caliber?

NWCID has a 300 Whisper, IIRC. You might send him an E-Mail - I think he reloads them. I know he collects that brass. 0 -
The Sierra manual lists 9.4-12.2gr. AA-9 at 2.260" COL

Well in theory you need to find out exactly what gun you have. Is it an actual JD Jones .300 Whisper or is it a .300 Ball, .300-221, ect. In reality it is a 5.56 vs .223 or 7.62x51 vs .308 argument.
You can and should play with your OAL but make sure it fits the mag and will feed.
You also dont say what length of barrel you are using, position of gas block or how fast you are tying to make it go. I load subsonic only in mine, if I want to go fast I have other .30 cal guns for that.
I am running a 16" barrel with carbine position gas block. I am using 1680 with good luck. I did try some 240gr SMK's but they were spendy. I am currently using Hornady 220gr RN bullets as they are a little less then 1/2 the price.
Here are 2 links you need,

I still need to come up with a good scope for this then I will paint the barrel to match the gun and I will be done.
