winchester 94 forearm band

are there any tricks to getting screw started in forearm band?appear to be about half the screw width off.can't seem to get it lined up

  i have used a few appropriate swear words from time to time when trying to start that screw. it can be almost impossible at times. it is hard to get the wood as far back as it needs to be. try tapping gently on the front of the wood with a plastic or leather mallet to seat it .be careful as the wood upsets easily.

  Hi...If it's the original forestock and band, then it should go if it's fully seated. If a replacement, then you may need to modify the barrel slot a bit. Be very careful when seating the wood, and sometimes it works better if the band is already on the wood as you seat it. I usually position the band when the wood is still several inches loose, as the barrel narrows toward the front, and makes applying the band easier, without scratching the wood. BT
