smith and wesson k-frame question

I have just purchased a s&w k-frame (six rounds)snub nose. I called s&w and gave them the serial number to assess just how old it was. They said based on the number it was made in approximately 1917. Regarding the snumb nose part, it is clear that the original barrel was replaced with the 2" barrel.

Here is my question I would like to replace the extractor rod so that it also will be blued to match the revolver (I'd also like that beveling effect on the end too). When I attempt to purchase the extractor rod what "Model" number should I be use to get the right rod? thanks!

    If S&W told you it was made in 1917 your K frame is most likley a Military & Police Model of 1905 4th Change. Those guns did come from the factory with 2", 4", 5" and 6" barrels--are you sure yours was replaced or did S&W tell you that--usually a factory letter will tell you for sure.

    what is your extractor rod now, nickel? lyou can always have it stripped and reblued.

    Thank you all for the advice. It is appreciated. Sorry no camera posts possible right now. I will get my daughter to take one tomorrow and I will post it. I admit my desire for the new rod is purely cosmetic. But what the heck? With the help of another member it has become clear that this revolver pre-dates model numbers.

    S&W didn't put model numbers on thier pistols until 1957. I'll reask a question already asked. Did S&W tell you it came with a longer barrel?

    If it was made in 1917 it is NOT a "Military and Police". It is a Hand Ejector Model of 1905, probably a 4th change.
