Looking for some ideas here. The butt stock is loose but try as I might I cannot get the screw out. It is frozen to the wood, probably from some rust. If I wiggle the butt stock I can see the screw moving in the frame so it is the screw to wood that is stuck. Don't want to use something like Kriol since oil can make the wood soft. Any suggestions?

Have you removed the forend, that will let you view the screw in the receiver. The buttstock screw can be a bugger to get out, it should be anchored in the receiver and really can't be stuck in the wood. I know on my No4 MkII I turned & turned figuring it was going nowhere, but eventually it did turn out. 0 -
Yea - we removed all the other wood. When I wiggle the butt stock I can see the screw wiggle in the frame. Must be stuck to the wood. 0 -
Hello, I have found bakelite oilers and the leather washers jammed in
there. Make sure with a bright lite that you can see the bolt slot.
My tool of choice is an older L shaped tire iron. File or grind the
screwdriver end so it is shorter and therefore thicker and parallel
the blade sides so it fits bolt slot snugly. Put forearm back on and place muzzle down on floor with forearm between legs and socket extension of iron should give you enough leverage. Tighten bolt a
little first THEN unscrew. Work bolt both ways as you gradually unscrew bolt. I HIGHLY reccomend you fit blade very snug to bolt slot.
Do this and it will come out.0 -
I forgot to mention wrap tape around shaft of tire iron far enough
up and wide enough to act as a bushing to keep shaft centered in
stock hole.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions. I was trying a large square shafted screwdriver with a wrench on it. I really like the idea of tape to keep it centered. 0
