What pound spring do I need for a 22 Colt Conversion kit,I have the kit but no spring,My gunsmith tells me the spring for the 45 is to heavy.Help would be appreciated. Thanks...

    Try a 10 or 11 pound spring.

    Hello There have been many different makers of 22 conversion units and even the ones made BY Colt for Colts have been made in several different models that take different springs depending on if the barrel has a floating"2piece barrel" chamber or not. Unless you can post detailed in focus of all parts you have it will just be a guess on our part. I suggest you call Brownell's and ask for the Tech dept. If that fails double click on my name and send me an email through Gunbroker with your direct email address and I will send you some pictures of different brands and models to see if any of mine are the same type as yours.

    Hello I got your email with picture and sent a reply to sender a number of times but each try was rejected [?][?][:(] I will send my comments as this Message . It looks like the part you need is the spring you need to call Brownells and tell them you have a Colt 1980-1982 SERVICE MODEL ACE this pistol uses the same spring as your vintage conversion unit . One other thing you need to know is your unit has a two piece Chamber/Barrel. If the unit was shot with cheap bulk ammo the bullets used in this kind of ammo is very soft and will foul the 2 piece floating chamber . Take the barrel apart and use a screw driver to clean the burnt powder/ Carbon and leading . if the 2 parts are stuck together it will not function.

    perry shooter I still need help..I contacted Brownell and they said the Colt Ace used a 12# spring which they had but didn't have the guide rod.They said I would have to have the rod that came with the kit.Question is.. wouldn't another rod from a 1911 work and if so what would it be. Thanks again.

    Hello I am very disappointed in the brownell Tech dept the standard guide would work . It is properly a recoil spring Guide and onlt about 1&1/2 inches long there is never a NEED for a full length guide rod in any Colt 1911 type pistol It is just a "Feel Good BLING" part the Kart and Marval conversion kits do use a full length guide because they are threaded and that is How those brands LOCK the barrel to the frame The Colt does not lock the barrel so it can use the standard guide. Hope this helps.

    EDIT FEB 15 10:00 pm that item will work but your pistol that you are converting should already have these 2 Parts that you can use I dont see need ro spend money and IMHO stainless will look odd on a blued conversion.
