T/C Encore rings and bases

I'm moving along on my pro-hunter handgun project and I find that there are multiple options for bases and rings. Some of the photos I've seen a picatinny-type rail and up to 4 rings are being used. I'm looking at a .460 S&W, or perhaps a .375 JDJ. I'd like to only do this once and obviously the recoil is no small consideration. Does anybody have any experience or recommendations with these calibers in the Encore/Pro-Hunter?

    I have a T/C Contender with an unbraked 375 JDJ and a few other heavier calibers in handgun configuration on the Encore - 375 H & H, 405 Winchester, 45/70, etc. I've never had a problem with the base whether it was the Weaver type or a turn in type. The issue I've had to deal with once in a while is scope slippage in the rings. I tend to use Warne rings, my JDJ use 3 and stays put.

    You can use a sprinkle of resin, it's sold by Brownells, and that helps keep the scope in place. I'm told it can discolor or scratch the scope finish, but the no slip help is worth it to me and, if the scope stays put you won't see it.

    One other issue is the scope body flexing under recoil. A long handgun scope with a large front objective may flex under recoil, so using more than two rings can serve as "support posts" in addition to the extra clamping power.

    I also ensure the rings & base are made of the same material when using the Weaver style base. Under recoil, steel rings pushing up against an alloy base may tend to compress the alloy. May be a bit overcautious, but like you said I want to do it only once.

    Redfield sells a 3 ring, turn in style base and rings that should work fine.

    Go to SSK Industries, and get their TSOB base and ring set up. It is hard to find a steel 1913 type rail for the Encore, but that is what I would use, and if you want to cheap out on the rings, get the Weaver/Simmons All Terrain, or 4x4 rings. I would use three if they would fit the scope.

    Use Burris Signature rings--no more slipping !!!!
    You can have cross slots cut in a Weaver base to hold more rings, and you can buy a lot of them for the price of a TSOB... I have one of them on a XP and don't see where it's all that special other than the price.....[V]

    Match Grade Machine makes a 4 or 6 screw steel weaver/1913 base for the Encore and Contender. I like the 6 because even if only 4 holes are present in the barrel it has more slots for ring positioning, follows the barrel contour a bit better too.
