winchester 70 pre 64

Did Winchester ever install pachmayr white line recoil pads on the pre 64 70's if a customer made a special request? I recently saw one that fit so perfectly that it had to have been fitted before the stock was finished, and the finish is original

    regarding the pre 64 Winchester 70 featherweight, what's the most desireable collectable caliber, 30-06, 308. or 243

    Yes. In addition to the Winchester Pad they offered the White Line and several other pads as options for a minimal extra charge. The magnums came standard with the Winchester pad but Pachmayr could be substituted. The.264 came late and had a vented pad.

    My 1961 M70 in .264 has the standard plastic butt plate with the slight curve typical of other late pre-64 Winchester 70's.

    You are right. The standard .264 Westerner rifle did not have a pad. The .264 Featherweight had a pad unless ordered without. They switched from steel buttplates to composite around 1959 before the .264 was introduced in 1960. thanks.
