s&w 38sp victory
i am looking at buying a s&w victory united states property mark and would like to know if anyone knows what the underside of the barrel is supposed to say? the one i am looking at has something written on it but it appears that only half of the stamp actually made it onto the barrel. weather it be top half or bottom we can not tell and pics are to small to see clearly.

Stamped onto the barrel flat (that's the area between the lug and the frame-covered by the ejector rod when the cylinder is closed) should be the SerNo of the gun. I think there may be a US property stamp on the barrel round forward of the lug. Not sure. Best I could do.
However, good evidence of a buff-job prior to refinishing is when a part of the stamping is obliterated. It usually runs the top half, or the bottom half of a rollmark stamping on rounded surfaces. Use caution in that regard. Joe0 -
thanks the us mark is on the left top above the cylinders and the ser# is on the bottom of the grip, and on the cylinder, the letters i am looking for are in front of the cylinder plunger and on the bottom of the barrel 0 -
There is also a serial number on the bottom of the barrel. It's on the flat above the ejector rod. All mine has is the V and serial number. 0 -
just an update the info i was trying to find out about is an import mark as this turns out to be a british lend lease gun please check out part 2 0
