Marlin 1895 lever

I have a Marlin model 1895 in a 45/70 and the lever wont stay closed. All I have to do is bump the gun and it flops open. And it's worse when you put rounds in the mag. Is there a fix that I can do myself? I don't want to send the gun back to Marlin. Please help

  I have the same Marlin, how old?
  It has a very strong action, I would let a gunsmith or Marlin look at it.
  I can handload a 400gr to 2000 fps. with no issues.

  Call Marlin. There may be a repair station nearer then the factory. But that is not normal you need to get it checked.
