NEF Firearms Question
My daughter has a NEF 20ga. single shot shotgun. Is this the same reciever as the Handi Rifle, and can we swap rifle barrels on to it? Thanks in advance for any help.

'Fraid not HPD. The Handi-Rifle has a heavier frame. If you had a rifle going to a shotgun barrel they would do it. 0 -
If your serial number starts with SB2- then you are good to go... otherwise no... 0 -
I believe all the NEF's must be sent back to the factory to have the barrels fitted and inter changed 0 -

Now that's interesting. When I inquired about my niece's gun a couple years ago they never mentioned the ser#. I'm going to have to check it again.0 -
Heres a link to the H&R website that shows what can and can't be swapped.

First of all, if the gun was made prior to 1986 or so, it cannot be fitted with any barrel of recent manufacture. Remember, H&R has gone through several reincarnations and the current company will not work on or have anything to do with firearms manufactured by prior incarnations.
If the serial number indicates post 1986 manufacture, then it will have to be an SB2 Frame, otherwise it is a shotgun only cast iron receiver and cannot be fitted with anything other than a shotgun barrel.
The serial number will have a two letter code at the beginning to indicate the year of manufacture. The SB2 will be stamped on the frame somewhere, it is not part of the serial number. If it is a modern SB2 frame, then you can send the frame into the factory and have a barrel fitted OR you can purchase a barrel and fit it yourself.
