Yes, Colt made Pythons Finished in "Coltguard " which is electroless nickel. It was discontinued when Colt started using Stainless steal.
    I have two such Pythons manufactured in'78 & '82

    Here's a pic of a 1982 Python(E. Nickel) I bought new.

Pythons were not cataloged in bright nickel until the March 1961 catalog.

Thanks for the reply..what is confusing about my gun is it looks somewhere between a bright nickel and (for want of another word)a satin..I guess the only real way of finding out is to ask Colt which is a costly adventure: $75....I'm cheap...the reason I am persuing this is because, as you know, if it was redone, the gun loses some value.

It sounds like you may have an aftermarket finish, or someone purposely "dulled" the bright nickel, or the nickel finish is REALLY worn. I suspect the finish is aftermarket.

Thanks for the reply..I sold the gun yesterday at a gun show for 1050..if it was redone, I understand that was a good price.
