most model 94"S eject straight up through the top the AE ejects sort of out the top/side ANGLE EJECT= AE XTR= Just a slightly Dooled up model Checkered wood etc. As far as I know the AE model was made to let the owner mount a scope over the bore instead of a side mounted/offset Scope mount . I don't think the AE models were made until the company sold the Winchester NAME to USRA Bert H and other Winchester Guys can shed more light on the time frame of changes.

All Winchester Model 94s were top-eject (1894 through 1980). In the year 1983, the U.S. Repeating Arms Co. (U.S.R.A.Co.) modified the original John M. Browning design, and introduced the 94AE (Angle-eject).

The "XTR" has nicer quality walnut stocks that are checkered, whereas the 94AE has plain hardwood stocks.
