Model 70 floorplate ?

I'm going to make a new gunstock for a recently purchased Winchester Ultimate Shadow Model 70 300 WSM. My question is the footplate on this model is fixed in place so does that mean I can do away with that all together on my new stock. I know I have to allow for the magazine and spring. Any other tips or suggestions for my project are welcome. Thanks!
