model 70

I just purchased my first Model 70. I'm really impressed! I am thinking about another one in a synthetic stock for heavy woods and brush. I like the pre 64 bolt. Can anyone tell me what Serial # is the break on the action. Where does the new/old style start. I was told they started in 94 making the pre64 design again. Any help appreciated. Where did the pre-64s serials stop at. or a web sight that gives me the Numbers. Thanks

    Picked up a Winchester MOdel 70 today. Something to maybe shoot some varmints. Anyway was wondering about a DOM, serial number# G1130xx It also says 375 H&H Mag, super express.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Trigger adjustments can be tricky and could be rendered unsafe! For the most part they should be done by an expert gunsmith. That being said...I did do one of mine at home. One of my Model 70's is a 1972 22-250 that had a pull of least 6 lbs. I took it apart and compared it to another Model 70 I have with a pull of about 3 lbs and turned one of the nuts (there are two) on the gun that I wanted to change. It seemed to be fairly simple...and after dry firing and slamming the bolt many times it appeared to be safe. I then put some glue onto the nut so it would not loosen...but there was also plenty of pressure on the nut anyway. It shoots fine! If you are not sure or you do not have another to compare...SPEND the bucks...and get it done professionally...

    Hair triggers and there adjustments should be avoided, especially when in the hands of an amateur.

    If you GOOGLE. Using "Adjusting Model 70 Trigger". As your search term, a number of information sources turn up. Including U Tube Videos.

    Take Cartod's and Michibay's advice to heart though. Be specially careful and check your work, to make sure the trigger pull is safe and functional.

    I haven't seen a recent M70 trigger, but last I knew they could be adjusted with a couple small open ended wrenches. You might want to test them out for correct functioning prior to loading live ammo.

    I did my own on a '74 vintage Model 70 a couple of years ago. It isn't hard to do, just be careful not to try and go too light. After adjustment I tested it by dropping the gun (sans scope!) butt first on a block of wood set on concrete to make sure it was still safe to pack in the woods. The trigger is now a nice crisp 4lbs.

    Yes you can. You will need two 1/4" wrenches. The other thing is you will need to know what you are doing before you start.
