Taurus 85S, 38 Special, 5 barrel, 1991 purchase
My father gave me a Taurus 85S, 38 special as a gift before he died. I have the original box with the padding, the instruction manual, the receipt, and the warranty papers. It appears that my father returned the warranty card to the manufacturer.
The gun has never been fired to my knowledge. I opened it up, and the barrels are clean. My father handled the gun and did not clean it, so there may be slight discoloration on the blue metal finish, but I'm not certain. There is some discoloration on the trigger, probably from finger oils. The metal is not degraded or corroded from what I can observe, although I don't know if discoloration is considered corrosion.
I need to sell this gun to help pay my bills, and I need to sell it for as much as possible! I have no idea of its value or the best place to sell it. My father paid $197.00 for the gun when he bought it in February 1991.
Can anybody help me here? If there are any veterans out there who could lend a hand by providing some advice, know that my father served his country not only in WWII but also by working with hundreds of Vietnam War Veterans to help them straighten out their lives.

Eva the best place to sell it is on the auction side. With no pictures in your post I can give you a best guess price--you should have no problem getting $250 for a used but unfired .38-even a Taurus. You can of course get more for that if a bidding war starts. These guns run around $300 brand new. If you do sell it on the auction side make sure to post plenty of clear pictures--and come back to this side and give us a link-many will bid.
You will most likley get the most bids with a no reserve auction--start it for $200 and see where it goes from there--shipping a handgun costs between $50 to $70 if you use UPS or Fedex--you can also have a gun dealer ship it for you as some charge less than UPS or Fedex--make sure to follow the instructions on the auction side on how to ship-there is a wealth of info there.0
