1857 Tower musket
I picked this up awhile back. It has the crown stamped on the lock. It is a 58cal percussion 3 band Enfield. I have the bayonet and the original white shoulder strap and nipple. the bore is not all that great. i cleaned it and lapped it. I took it to the range and benched it. I shot it 10 times with a round ball. Out of the 10 I got 6 in the 9 circle and 4 in the 8 circle. With not to bad grouping. Thst will be the last time I shoot it. Every time I get a new gun. I have ti shot at lest once. For 157 year old rifle. I thought it did good. I was told buy a guy at gun show. That they didn't use Towers in the Civil War.

Tower Enfields were most definitely used by both the North and South in the American Civil War. The Union imported approximately 500,000 of them from 1861-1863.
Your barrel should be stamped "24" if it's a .58 caliber or "25" if it's .577.0 -
It was designed for a mini ball. Give it a try with one that is the correct bore size and see how it shoots. 0
