S&W 22A red dot?

Has anyone here put a red dot (or similar) on their S&W 22As?
What do you think? How does the stock rail take to aftermarket glass sights?

    Most red dots come with Weavee style mounts, they will clamp right onto your S&W, no problem. I put a red dot on my Ruger 22 and it has definitely improved my groups!

    I've shot one that had a inexpensive Chinese made Simmons red-dot mounted. The Simmons red-dot came with rings that attached to the Weaver rail on top of the pistol. It worked fine and was quite accurate. With the Simmons and 6" barrel S & W, it was quite heavy though, strictly a two hand proposition. The Weaver clamping screws had to be locktighted though, as they loosened from recoil.

    I put a cheapy $10 reflex sight on mine just to test it out.

    Snapped right into place with the built in mount, and (surprisingly) held its zero through a few boxes of ammo.

    Great "plinker", and novice shooters especially appreciate it.

    Eventually, I'll go to something a little better.

    I have a red dot on a S&W 22S (same rail as "A") as a "loaner gun" to new shooters for Bullseye.

    Assure your rail is tight (do not over tighten) and use some blue locktite on the threads. Mounts with standard Weaver style scope mounts.

    Does a red dot help? For us old guys yes, for some new young guys you do have to get used to seeing the dot "jump" due to your arc of movement.

    put one on my s&w 22A busnell red dot came with rings to fit the weaver went with no problem shoots very well .. better then me..

    go for it if you want a red dot

    Tnanks, all. I just came from the range with it. Took me several mag loads to get it sighted in, WAY off high and to the left. Once I zero'd it in it's straight as an arrow. LOVE it! Put about 400 rounds through it. Fed well with the exception of failure to fire at least one round nearly every mag full. I don't know if it's the ammo (Remmington Cyclone) or what. The ftf rounds all seemed to be struck the same as the the spent rounds. I'll try another brand next time. Going to order a red dot or reflex this week.

    Try different ammo. I bought a case of Remington Target at Camp Perry last year and get about 12 per hundred misfires. And I heard it was better now due to the "Eley priming system", so much for that!

    Anyone want to buy 1/2 case cheap??
