parkerizing help?

ok so i have all my stuff to parkerize my saiga 308. it all seems like a pretty simple process. Ill be using the lauer maganese phosphate. I have a 11 degree crowned barrel will the parkerizing process be harmful to the crown and therefore affecting accuracy? If i have to recrown its not a big deal. just looking for the correct procedure?!

    I'm really not an expert on this, but my understanding is that before any sort of gun refinish (particularly one that adds thickness like parkerizing), you need to plug up the barrel.

    I really do NOT think you want to parkerize the INSIDE of your barrel!

    I also don't think you'd want to have to recrown later. . .why create a problem for yourself?

    You need to plug both ends of the barrel. With the ends pluged you will not hurt the crown. We use scrap brass to plug ours. Try a 223 shell with the primer in it. Just drive one in a little for a good seal.

    Tried to answer your PM, but it came back. Plug the barrel to be safe. We didn't have any rubber plugs for the first ones did.

    A waste of time trying to keep the water out, and that's what park solution is, water, manganese dioxide, and phosphoric acid.

    Water, gets everywhere, the rifle has a gas block and gas port, when immersed into the park tank the water WILL flow in.

    Here's a hint. Parkerizing, the chemical reaction wherein the iron in the steel reacts with the acid and manganese dioxide to "grow" manganese phosphate crystals on the surface of the steel, doesn't grow on...aluminum, most stainless steels (not enough iron), chrome plated areas or parts, or POLISHED SURFACES.

    So...if you've blasted your saiga (with the bbl plugged) and kept the blasting media out of the bore, you can use a wire to slip down the bore and suspend the barreled action in the park tank, thereby eliminating "contact marks" from other methods of suspending the item in the tank.

    Since the bore is chromed, no park will grow there anyway. EVEN IF IT WERENT, it's a bright, shiny bore...and park won't grow there anyway.

    Simply ensure that after rinsing you blow the bore out completely...and you're good to go.
