Federal Hi Power Ammo in a Hi Standard

I found a few boxes of Federal Hi Power 22 long ammo in my basement and dont know much about it. Would it be safe to shoot it out of a Hi Standard 102 series Citation? Being a 50+ year old gun I didnt know if it would make a difference.

    Couple of boxes of Federal Hi Power Ammo will be work fine in your Citation. The Federal ammo in my experience isn't as hotly loaded as the Remington or CCI high velocity .22 ammo. Except for the hyper velocity ammo that on the market now, there is little difference in the muzzle velocities between standard and hi-vel .22 ammo in a pistol, ( not talking about the high priced target loads ).Years ago when I cronow them it was like 100 fps difference, on average.

    Safe, yes.

    You certainly won't hurt yourself, and I strongly doubt you will hurt your gun with that limited quantity of high velocity ammo.

    That said, personally, I won't fire ANY high-velocity ammo through my Hi-standards.

    Maybe this is superstition on my part, but the Hi-standards have a reputation for developing frame cracks with thousands and tens of thousands of rounds.

    I like my Citation so much (its my personal favorite gun) that I "baby" it, and since I'm basically ONLY using it for punching paper, I just don't see the need to add any wear and tear with high velocity ammo.

    Maybe Ill just try a few rounds and just leave the rest for the rifle. I really like this gun, even if it is peiced together, and I dont know its history. I want to keep it around awhile while still shooting 50 to 100 rounds a week with it. I still cant help being curious what it will do with the hi power though. Thanks for the advice.
