    I own the Bulgarian Makarov but have secretly always wondered about the Cz myself. I must say the Mak turned out to be everything that was promised. It is accurate, concealable and so far very durable. I did not have any use at first for the 9X18 cartridge ( I used to tell my friend that it was nothing more than a .380+p lol), but with ammo prices being what they are today it goes to the range now more than ever. My opinion right now is of course one-sided because I do not own or have ever shot the Cz but I can attest to the Mak if you are interested in getting one for yourself. I will be standing by on this post because I also would like to hear from others who may have both.

    The CZ design is rather complicated when compared to the Makarov, but for civilian shooters this is not much of an issue. On the other hand the CZ is a much better made pistol than the Bulgarian Maks, although the Arsenal commercial pistols are much nicer than the police and military guns. If it were a toss up between an East German Mak and the CZ then I'd go for the EG Makarov. With the Bulgarian? I'd take the CZ, it is just a better built gun.

    I know nothing of the CZ, but can attest that the Bulgarian Mak is a great pistol.

    I like my Bulgarian Mak in 9x18 and it's KGB approved. It will shoot all commercial and surplus ammo. Parts are readily available. I've put about 2,000 rounds through it. Haven't needed to change anything but bought a bunch of spares since this a keeper for me. With a barrel press you can change it over to 380. The only problem I had was when I used a spray Moly lube and slide wouldn'r always lock open after the last shot.

    If you buy a 9x18 don't buy Wolf ammo. Some rounds have steel cored bullets and indoor ranges prohibit their use. Outdoor ranges don't. I shoot at a local indoor range and learned the hard way after buying 1,000 rounds. Easy to reload if you can commercial brass or make some from 9x19 brass.

    Very reliable gun. What I don't like about the Mak: the magazine release is cumbersome and it will only hold 8 rounds.

    Took a look at the CZ 82 on the auction side. With a 12+1 capacity, ambidexterous safety and a button Mag release seems like a nice pistol. Not having owned a CZ, I can't say anything about its reliability, ease of cleaning, etc.

    I've owned nearly all of the Warsaw Pact milsurp handguns (lost 30 of them to a theft) and far prefer the CZ82 to any of the Makarovs. Ergonomics, capacity, function, features and accuracy (polygonal rifling for the 9x18 MAK rounds)of the CZ82 are superior, to one degree or another - at least in my experience and opinion. CZ82s currently are running somewhat less in price, also. Hated the CZ holster. The 82 is the only one I rebought, BTW.

    I agree with .32 mag, The cz is the better pistol, though I like the PM. ergonomics, espcially the magazine release and larger frame, to the polygonal rifled barrel, finish and magazine capacity. The CZ82 is the better pistol in my opinion..
