remington 48 mohawk

I recently picked up a mohawk in a 20 ga at a local gunshow for a bargain of a price. The guy was asking $165, however the gun was FILTHY. In fact it was probably the dirtiest gun that I come across at a show. After asking about it the seller took it on trade and said that it did not fire. I bargained a bit and got it for $100, took it home, disassembled and cleaned evrything. I then took it out and shot it several times-It shoots fine and patterns great. The gun overall after being cleaned is in probably 85% cond at best. I want to refinish the stock. What is the best way to go about htis without comprimising the value too much??? Is it worth refinishing, or should I leave it "original"?? Thanks

    At 85% finish I doubt that the rifle will become a valuable collector's item. I would refinish the stock with one of the linseed oil based compounds.

    At $100.00 how much can you hurt the gun?? Will bring more than that for parts. I use brichwood Tru-Oil. Several coats will do a good job on Remington wood.
