Remington 14 to 30-30

Seeing as .30 Remington ammo is scarce at best, how hard would it be to convert a model 14 to 30-30?

    I have a friend with alot of time on his hands and thinks he can rebarrell his to work with 6.8 rem

    Why not reload? Midway has 30 Remington brass.

    You can use 30/30 dies to load the .30 Rem.Lee Die boxes are marked 30/30 or .30 Rem.

    Not looking to invest in reloading, just want to keep my Granddaddy's old rifle shooting for a while to come.

    I dont even think you can get the Case in the Magazine. you would need to build a new bolt rechamber the barrel build a new cartridge feed mech and New Magazine it would not be your Grand Dads Rifle IMHO.

    If your not going to reload but want to keep shooting the rifle, just how much shooting are you going to do ? Seems to me that the cost to convert the rifle would buy a fair amount of ammunition, if that won't buy enough ammunition then you really ought to put the money in reloading equipment and reload for it.

    You would be money ahead doing that and with the added benefit of keeping the rifle original.

    FORGET IT!! These guns are VERY cantankerous about feeding and functioning. I've owned several over the years. Buffalo Arms probably has loaded ammo or forage around gun shows and the internet and find four or five boxes or ammo. Even @ $50 per box it will be cheaper and a lot less frustrating, not to mention ruining a collectors piece.

    15+ years ago, I acquired a Remington model 30 in .30 Rem. My wife went with me to a local gun show and the "project" I assigned her was to find some .30 Rem. cartridges. She bought 2 boxes from a custom reloader. They were loaded with new cases, H335, and a 170 gr. RN bullet. I pulled some of the bullets and things checked out OK so I fired them. Velocity was 2050 and 5-shot groups ran about 3 1/5" which was the same performance I got from Remington factory loads. The point is: You can still find ammunition at gun shows--I'm not recommending someone else's reloads but factory loads are still available if you look. I can't imagine that your rifle would ever work properly in .30-30.
