Winchester Model 12 20 Ga Noise
Hello and thanks in advance for any help you provide.
I recently purchased a nice Winchester model 12 20 ga. and it has a noise I cannot figure out. When I tip the end of the shotgun up and down, it sounds like something is moving in the magazine tube. It moves to the end of the tube when I point the barrel down and to the back of the tube when I point the barrel up. What is this noise and how can I correct it?
Thanks, Ken

The plug is easily removed by removing the front end of the magazine. The plug may be valuable or may be only a piece of broom handle. I would remove it but don't throw it away until you determine what it is. 0 -
Thanks again for the advice. I purchased a box of shells at the gun show and the shotgun will only hold 2 shell - it's the plug in the tube moving around. I will have a go at removing it in the next week or so.

Ken you will find two screws and a cross pin need to be removed to take the mag cap off. the cross pin can be pushed out further in one direction than the other. You will want to push the pin out the long side and then look at the center of the pin there will be a round piece of wire stock looking back at you this is a spring you will have to push this down and then pull the pin all the way out. Then you will need to take the 2 screws out, keep a finger on the mag cap when the last screw comes out so could the cap. Sometimes a little wiggle of the cap will help. Assemble in reverse. NOTE PUTTING A PIECE OF TAPE ON THE END OF THE CAP WITH AN ARROW POINTING AT THE BARREL WILL HELP A LOT WHEN YOU REASSEMBLE THE MAG CAP. WAG 0 -
Be careful removing the plug. It is mandatory in certain states that the gun only holds 3 shells.
