No5 or conversion SMLE?
Gentlemen,
Pls see my auction.
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=156481589
Predictably, people are emailing me regarding "how genuine" it is. Is this bolt forced matched, is lacking real #5 features?
Is it a "sante fe conversion?"
no 5 mk 1 is electrostenicel on receiver, but read bbl stamp as noted in the auctions additional comments.
Where would the import mark be? none are visible on exposed bbl.
Thanks for any advice
Tsavo

Just a quick guess, but based on the daylight between the side of the rear receiver top and the folded down rear sight I'll guess the gun itself is a real #5. Of course scallops on the barrel where it meets the receiver would pretty much cinch it, I think.
Bolt looks OK, but can't see much other than the cut - if the bolt's handled hollowed out would be a good sign.
I've usually found import mark on right front of barrel just behind the front sight.
It doesn't have a Santa Fe gun look, looks fine.0 -
Thanks-bolt is hollowed out 0 -
tsavo303,
I know this thread is about Enfield...but who's the HOT MODEL!!??[:D]
FWIW, your rifle looks like the No. 5's that I've seen. I'm not even close to being an expert on them though.0 -
Thanks, that is my wife
Firgured it out. the scallops are there, and the bbl band is in the right place. glad to know its not a conversion0 -
ts not a conversion/quote]
+1
and the barrel looks very good. most no5's that i've seen had the barrel shot out and were terribly inaccurate. i bet this one shoots pretty well. nice gun.
just my 2c

Hello tsavo303,
+1, as others have stated, the Enfield (SMLE #5 .303 Enfield) checks out as the real McCoy. It looks very good.
( Sent you a GB enote to your auction site. )
Good luck to you.0
