browning bar variations
any differences between the type 1,2 and mark ll series browning auto high power rifles? any one have any problems or work better than the others? am looking to buy and looking for input,thanks

The production of the BAR high power rifle Grades 1 and 2 (and up) began in 1968. Initially they were made in Belgium.Later in Japan. The BAR Mark II series was introduced in 1993 and is still in production.I had an early Grade II and used it for 3o years with great satisfaction. Accuracy and reliability were fine. I didn't particularly care for the detachable magazine but that was just me and it wasn't a major thing. The only difference in the grade II over Grade I was some very basic scrollwork engraving on the receiver. Can't speak for the Mark II although they seem to be almost identical. My nephew has one and likes it. 0 -
hello-so the basic rifle and internal parts did not change any,just the outside,finish,grade and ect............no change of parts for upgrades? 0 -
I may have to correct myself mcdangdang. This browning site shows that the BAR is not one of the models transfered to Miroku (Japan co.) for production. Instead the parts were made in Belgium and assembled in Portugal. That is so stated on the barrel if applicable.

I would welcome some second opinions here to confirm it, but it is possible that not all BAR parts are interchangeable between Belgium, Belgium/Portugal BAR's. I had a first year Belgium Grade II and had trouble finding replacement stock that matched the color, finish and checkering of any of the later models. That should not be particularly prohibitive because replacement parts are seldom needed and when they are they are quite available for all types. Just need to be specific.Again, I would seek second opinion to confirm if it is important to you.0
