45 ACP bullets

Is there such a thing as a "match grade" cast bullet for the 45 acp? What brands would you recommend if any?

    I picked up some 45 caliber(.451) bullets at s surplus store , weighing 155 grs. Can't find any loading data on that weight , any body know where to start with a powder charge ?

    155 grains is a very light .45 bullet. There is no data because that is such a light bullet. What powder are you planning to use?

    You could use the data for the 185 gr bullets and stay at the beginning (lighest) loads.

    Hello the 45ACP if you are using it in a 1911 TYPE pistol you need to understand a number of things To function this pistol you will need at least the correct minimum recoil impulse . The lighter the bullet the higher the velocity is needed to get to that recoil level. There is no free lunch when it comes to recoil to function this design pistol UNLESS you do one of two things #1 reduce the weight of the recoiling moving parts "SLIDE ASSEMBLY" or install a lighter weight recoil spring and or Main Spring. I never advise on loads on the internet. but if you go to your reloading manual and look at loads for lead 185 Grain bullets you will be safe with those loads with a 155 grain I would go with the upper end of the 185 loads. The normal rule of thumb with pistol loads is the heavier the bullet the SMALLER amount of powder is needed to reach Max safe pressure.

    I plan to use W231. The 185gr max is 6.1grs , I thought I'd start there and increase .3 grs. per drop .

    I load the 155 gr lead swc with 6.6 gr of AA2. This bullet is a good test of a 1911. A lot of 1911s will not feed these.

    When I shot IPSC I loaded 8.5grs. of WSF. They were shot in a comp. gun, and are hot, 1150fps. 1.275 COL fed good in that 1911.
    At www.hodgdon.com the load data for W231 and 155SWC is 6.0-6.7grs.

    "Modern Reloading" 2nd edition by Richard Lee lists about 15 loads for the 155 grain lead 45 ACP bullet. OAL varies from 1.23 to 1.27, I see nothing for WW231. Just a few others, Titegroup is from 5.7 gr to max 6.2, RDot lists 5.7 gr, HS6 from 9.0 to 10.0 max & Bullseye from 6.6 to 6.9 max.
