Can anyone tell me about this Colt Pistol?

My Dad just got this pistol with a bunch of old guns he bought from a friend. We looked on Colt's website, but we can't find anything about this particular model (out of 1500 pistols listed). All we know is that it was Patented on August 5th (don't know what year), and the serial number is 4 digits, located under the grip. The barell has "Colt sp f" ... or maybe "Colt sp 6" ...? The rest is not readable. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not sure if the image copied, so I may have to repost to this topic.

    Ok, I'm not having any luck getting the piscture of the pistol to copy. can anyone tell me how to get a picture from a word document to copy onto these topics?

    I'll have to repost this topic (with pictures) when I have more time to mess with these photo sharing websites. Probably tonight or tomorrow.

    You can go ahead and delete this posting. Those photo sharing sites are a waste of time. I'll take the pistol to an antique arms expert to figure out what it is, otherwise I'll send the serial number and picture in to Colt, pay the $75, and have them give me the history of the gun, and a certificate of authenticity with it.

    Thanks, if I can get a photo sharing website to work right for me, i'll repost this topic. It's too bad members can't upload photos directly to this site instead of having ot go through a photo sharing website though. I would like people to se this little gun, because it is really cute, lol. The whole thing is only 5 in. long, and 1.5 in. of that is barell. It easily fits in the palm of my hand, but there are no markings on it for caliber, or model number. The only thing I could get off of it (and I needed a magnifying glass) was a date "patented Aug. 5th", and "Colt sp f" or "Colt sp 6" on top of the barell. I looked through 1,500 pocket revolvers on Colt's website, and none of them matched the one that I have. So it remains a mystery.

    That does not look like a Colt pistol. It appears to be a HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON or IVER JOHNSON pistol. The "Colt" name that you are reading could, very well, be the caliber designation.

    It appears to be a Harrington & Richardson revolver, the "Colt" marking refers to the type of ammunition. It might help if you could give us the approximate diameter of the bore.

    my dad tried a .32 long in the cylinder, and said that the diamter seemed to fit, but the nose of the bullet stuck out the other side of the cylinder.

    This string will be locked; repost and change title to Harrington & Richardson, which it clearly is. And the word "Colt" should not appear on the gun at all; did you just assume it was?

    List exactly what markings are on the gun, and look for a serial number under left grip.

    There was a 4 digit serial number under the left grip, and the words "Colt sp f" or "Colt sp 6" stamped on top of the barell. There was also a stamp on the side of the barell that said "Patented August 5th" there looks to be a year as well, but that is behind the seem of the barell and gun body.

    The barrel and front sight look wrong, and the cylinder pin looks like a replacement. It may be someone has installed a Colt barrel on this H&R!

    It should be marked "American Double Action" on the top strap over the cylinder: Does it look like that area has been filed or polished off?
