Bore sighting question
My friend has a Winchester 94 w/ side mount scope. He wants it bore sighted with a collimator type bore sighting tool. I say it can't be done.His bar buddies say yes it can. I say it will cross fire or something else stupid will happen and he'll be lucky to hit paper at 25 yds. What do you think?

Set the height, and leave the windage offset by the same amount as the scope. Take it out and shoot it, leaving the impact point offset until he's out to his final 100yd sighting.
Or do like I would, and skip the bore sighting and fire his first shot(s) at 25yd using a 4x4 foot piece of cardboard and dial it in from there.0 -
Instead of setting the collimator straight up, why not angle it to correspond approximately (it's all approximate, anyway!) to the off-set of the scope and go to clicking? 0 -
I'll check out both ways. Thanks guys.I was also thinking of putting the (sighted in) iron sights on the center of the bull at 25 yds then putting the scope on the bull. 0 -
The bar buddies are right it will bore sight with a collimator type bore sighting tool. The field of view of the scope must be wide enough to pick up the collimator that would be a lower power scope say 2 or 4 or a variable of such. The problem I find is that most people cant shot this system because their head is of the stock in an unusual position. The good part is if you keep the obj bell size small you can use your open sights if needed-- after missing with the scope. WAG 0
