Identify this brass
The first one looks like .223 and the headstamp has reads "LC.96..(circle with + in middle).."
Headstamp on this one has "38 72" but is not the same size as a Winchester .38-72. Case appears to have a slight taper to neck.

The first one is a military 5.56mm "Lake City" LC loaded in 1996. These are originally loaded with brass colored primers, that one looks like a reload with a silver colored primer and a seriously off-center firing pin hit.
Not sure what the second one is.0 -

The "+" in a circle is the "NATO Standard" mark, which means it was origionaly loaded to NATO military specs
"38" is the code for the Russian State Factory at Yuryusan, 72 is the year of manfacture.
There are some US cannon primers that look similar (they are almost identical to the 45-70 case), how does it compare to A) a 7.62x54R case (at least up to the shoulder) and to a 45-70 case?
IOW it might be some type of saluting blank, a soviet cannon primer, or a case that's had it's neck/shoulder ripped off.0 -
Second one is most definitely a Nagant revolver case. Look at the end where it fit inside the forceing one, a dead giv a way.
As stated above, the first is LC 5.56.0
