remington high power auto rifles???
hello-was looking at a remington centerfire auto rifle,seems there are a couple of different models? figure that maybe some were better than others,were there any models to stay away from? also which ones are the newer ones,seems there is a model 4,74,742,7400,ect ect. thanks

All of Remington's rifles are good quality guns. In each model there are sub groups with different stocks, levels of adornment with checkering, finishes, engraving etc.
The model 4 was made from 1981-87. Model 74 from 1984-87. Model 742 from 1960-80 and the model 7400 from 1981 to 2005.
There are really none to "stay away from" in my opinion. It just depends on which features, finish, stock etc you want.0 -

The proper term is 'semi-auto' since it fires one shot with every trigger pull, not multiple shots.
Unless price is a problem, I'd look at the Browning BAR or similar. The Benelli R1 is good.

The only decent one was the 740, which was the first one in the series. There was the 742, 4, 7400, 74, and now the 750. While I am not sure about the 750, the rest of the bunch has the problem, where the bolt is harder than the reciever. If shot a lot, it wears out the reciever. They are all finicky, and need to have the gas systems spotless, to function somewhat reliably, and they are never totally reliable.
So to answer your question...the only semi-auto centerfire they sell that is worth buying, is the R-25, and they do not make it, DPMS does.
Do a search on the topic, and you will not find much good about the Remington semi automatic rifles.

I own a 742 in 30-06 and a 7400 in 270 havent had a problem with either take care of it and it will take care of you and I have heard the horror stories as well 0
