Cooper Butt Pad

Anyone know why the Cooper Model 52 has that skinny little thin butt pad on it? Would it be difficult to put a 1" Pachmyr Decelerator on it similar to what's on the new Model 54 or Kimber rifles?

  IMHO it is because a Recoil pad ruins the looks of a high grade rifle like a Cooper.
