Remington 700/ 300 Ultra Mag

I am looking to buy a Remington 700 300 Ultra Mag and I would like to know the difference in accuracy between the Remington 700 SPS and the Remington 700 Sendero SF II?

    The Sendero has a much better stock and is much more likely to be accurate right out of the box. The stock on the SPS is total garbage.
    I know from very recent experience. By the time I get my SPS shooting the way I want it to I will have more into it than if I had just bought the better model to begin with. Just my two cents.

    I am about to list an original stainless fluted Sendero (not the II) in .300 Ultra. PM me if you are interested. Of course I will still need to list it here on GB so they will get their fees, but if I have someone wanting it, I might get off my duff and get it listed. [:I][:D]

    I can't afford to shoot the thing. I think I am going to drop back down to a .308 or maybe 30-06. I had a sporter .300 Win mag for a while and it was pricey too. That is something to think about... They will reach out there if you can shoot it.

    Does the original Sendero SF have a bedding block in it like the SF II?

    I have a SF II, and have been able to massage the loads and rifle to get near 1/2 MOA. The rifle has been skim bedded, and had a good trigger put in it for the purpose of long range hunting. It wears a NightForce NXS 5.5-22X56 with zero stops, and a NP-R1 reticle.

    The SPS is not got the stable platform like the Sendero, so don't expect better than 1MOA, if you can get it there. I just sold a very rare Browning A-Bolt II SS in the 300 RUM, that would shoot almost as good as the Sendero SF II, but recoil was real severe. I imagine it would be quite strong in the SPS also.

    I have a 300 rum in the bdl custom deluxe had a good trigger job done put a good scope on it and it will shoot 1/2 to 3/4 groups if you can afford to shoot it and the recoil is devastating

    They utilize the same type of stocks, aluminum bedded, kevlar web stock. They have a single front sling swivel mount. What I like about them is that they aren't as shiny as the SFII. The barrels are all bead blasted with no black accents.

    I HAVE A SENDERO 1 IN THIS CALIBER. OUT[:)] OF THE BOX FACTORY AMMO.413 MOA,,, RELOADS IT WILL SHOOT THEM INTO ONE HOLE.. IF YOU CAN HOLD IT THERE.. I THINK YOU WOULD NO DOUBT BE MUCH BETTER OFF BUYING THE SENDERO RATHER THAN THE SPS.. AS STATED THE SPS STOCK IS JUNK. GOOD LUCK

    they both use HS Precision stocks, which will best the SPS every day of the week.

    If you can find a good Sendero SF, instead of the SF II, jump all over it! The new X-mark pro trigger is BS and JUNK compared to the old 700 trigger. I hope the bean counter that came up with it got either fired or shot. They also on the new 700's, stake the trigger assembly pins so it is harder to replace them with the likes of a Timney, Jewel or Shilen.

    I assume that the Sendero barrel is fully and properly floated, but that is a presumption.

    I remember a test of an SPS varmint that I saw somewhere, and keep in mind that this is the heavy barrel: After establishing an accuracy baseline with the standard (crappy) stock, the barreled action was removed and put in a much better stock (HS Precision, I recall, but am not certain). Then, it was again accuracy tested with the same ammo and conditions, with nothing else done.

    Results: The accuracy improved by about 30 percent!!

    Welcome to the Gunbroker Forums!

    In general, Remington makes a small number of variations in barreled actions and then runs a dozen or more variations with different stocks. These stocks run the gamut from the very cheap and virtually unusable SPS to the better and more substantial HS precision stocks. Any of the Hogue stocks fall into that lower echelon of unusable.

    If you can afford and find the Sendero rifles, buy one.

    Otherwise you can look for an SPS used since it was probably owned for a very short time and shot very little. Then put it in a better stock such as the HS which can be found at suppliers such as Stockys Stocks.

    It always pays to keep an eye on the Auction side for a deal that could come up.
