Does anyone know anything about a manufacturer of AR receivers marked
"SMS"???? What quality? What deficiencies?

  Did you happen to misread the name? I think you might have seen a SNS Industries of Snohomish WA. receiver.
  
  If so I have a build on one of them and the fit and finish is very nice.
