S&W Grips
Hi...Can someone tell me when Smith and Wesson started to equip their revolvers with finger-groove combat grips? BT

I got a couple of S&W grips as a kicker on a trade deal. The grips are what I call Mother of Plastic, or Pearlite. They are plastic ant look like pearl with Gold or Brass colored medallions. How can I tell if these are true S&W gips. I tried the K frame grips on a couple of guns and there seems to be some gaps around the top rear of the frame. The J frame grips will not reliable function; the grip screw sometimes gets in the way.
I'll post photos of the grips as soon as I can.
Is there an easy way to re position the grip screw on the J frame grips?0 -
Model 10 is "K" frame they made both round butt and square Butt frames with the K size frame You need to look or have him look at this pistols frame. Be aware they made standard grips and Target grips of many styles some smooth some checkered some with a Diamond un-checkered around the grip screw. 0 -
Most Model 10 revolvers are square butt. K-frame square butt grips are about the most common S&W grips around. You should not have much trouble finding a set.
But perry shooter is right. You will have to look. Round butt and square butt grips are not interchangeable.0 -

Model 10 is built on the "K" frame, which was the standard Smith and Wesson medium revolver frame for many years.
(The small frame for snubnose revolvers is the "J" frame; the large one for big bore calibers like the famous "Dirty Harry" .44 magnum is the "N" frame.)
To fit the grips properly, you'll also need to know if the gun is "round butt" or "square butt". The vast majority are square butt:0 -
