S&W Mystery Hole
I have a 19-2 that was my grandfather's, he was an avid bullseye shooter. It has a hole drilled through the front sight ramp, just 1/4 inch before the sight itself. Does anyone know what this hole may have been for?

Might have been to install a KING Mirror sight attachment. With pictures I may have a better idea. what you are trying to describe. I have been a Bulls-Eye shooter for many years. Perry Shooter
EDIT yuck you need to preview your picture before posting. The wood grain of table is in focus but the pistol sight looks like an UFO[:(] However I do believe it was for a King Sight attachment. I have been a Bulls-eye shooters for many years and back in the 50's and 60's King made sights and attachments for sights that used a very small mirror to project available light onto the rear of the sight blade to let the shooter get a brighter sight picture. The EVIL BAY has them for sale from time to time if you want to see how they are made and attached.King also made a COCK-EYED hammer that made the hammer easier to reach for timed and rapid fire. Both products are OLD SCHOOL. If your Grand Dad ever shot at the National Championships at Camp Perry between 1972-2005 I can look up his scores for you I have the results for all shooters the years I attended. PERRY SHOOTER

Hard to tell, but I think a factory pin goes there, supposed to hold the sight in place. Just a guess, hard to tell on the photo. 0 -

I am an old Bulls-Eye shooter and have seen them used but am not old enough to have tried them myself . I can state that before the advent of the red Dot Sight "now used by almost all of the master class shooters" vision on being to see the clearest detail of the FRONT sight was the difference between winning the match or being a also RAN.This type of Mirror front sight was outlawed by the olympic rule makers. so they must have considered it an unfair advantage. Think of this attachment as being a long rectangle with a slot on one end and a mirror installed at a 45degree on the other end the front sight went through the slot the bar set on top of barrel and the mirror reflected overhead light onto the rear face of the front sight. Most people that have never shot bulls-eye think that a very small bead front sight is better but actually 99% of the best shooter have very large flat top wide front sights . some of us even use a very large red dot that is almost the size of the black bulls-eye . Think of it as taking your favorite rifle and shooting OFF HAND at 50 yards with a 2X scope the rifle does not seem to move much [^] But now with the same rifle still off-hand and mount a 20 power scope on it it looks like the target is doing a DANCE[:(]. With bulls-eye pistols we shoot ONE-HANDED slow fire at 50 yards you need to SEE but if you have a tiny front sight or red dot it will drive you nuts unless you can hold the pistol rock steady. hope this helps.
