Rem 760 or 7600 which is the better rifle?
I'm a new guy on the block. My ? is which of these two models is the better, 760 or the newer 7600. Been wanting a pump in center fire for awhile. Had a 742 a few years ago and what a piece of junk!! Trade it off at a gunshow for a Browning A-bolt Medalin with $70 difference, and one happy camper!!! Zeak51

You did well trading off the 742 autoloader. Both the 760 and the 7600 are very good firearms without the problems of the 742. The 7600 has fewer, but larger locking lugs. It might be a little stronger and simpler to manufacture. Many feel that the 760 is slightly more accurate. I own a very old 760 in 30-06 and it is a fine and accurate rifle; I couldn't ask for a better pump action.
Either one is a good choice, but I'll vote for the 760.

Welcome to the forum...I own a Rem 760 in 223 Remington...absolutely great rifle and it shoots 1/2 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards. I just bought a 7615 haven't shoot it yet. 0 -
I have an early 760 in .300 Savage. It is a great gun. No jams, accurate, lightweight. Spare mags are a little hard to find, and it isn't the simplest gun to work on, but I would love to find another one! 0 -
Welcome to the forum. Years back I was looking into the two series, I wanted a 35whelen, and as my memory serves there are some differences in available cartridges between the two series. So depending on which cartridge you want you may have to settle on one or the other. The other difference I noticed was that the 760s came in wood stocks whereas most of the 7600s I looked at were in synthetic. Still, to the best of my understanding, the basic pump system of both rifles is/was related to the Rem 870 shotgun pump system which IMO is the gold standard of pump shotguns.... 0 -

The 760 would be my pick. A nice 760 will hold its value better than a newer model...and you should be able to get a "nice 760" in the $400 range. The 300Sav represents about 4% of 760 production. If you can find one priced right...BUY IT! The 30-06 was the most popular followed by the 270. The 35Rem represented about 3% of production. The real rare one is the 257 Roberts. I am not sure if it was available in 222Rem...if so...it too would bring a premium. I am not sure about 243's or 308. I have a 35 and 300 and years ago I wrote down published production %'s on my 300 & 35. WELCOME ABOARD!!! 0 -
