Does anyone know how to date these? By the serial number? Thanks, Ed

  Welcome to the forum...by the serial number...Savage would probably know month and for sure year by the serial number and maybe one of the more dedicated Savage collectors could help too.

  Welcome to the forum. I have two Savage 340's. Go to savageshooters.com......they have numerous experts who can date your 340 for you. They are a great rifle (mine are in 30-30). These "utility" guns are far more accurate than they have a right to be. Savage or any other company, could make a mint by bringing back these kind of guns at a reasonable price.

  I have an older one and have a couple disagreements with the article the older ones are not drilled and tapped for scope mounting
