This is what i found. Does an antique pistol apply to this also or just Long Guns?
    Exceptions
The term firearm does not apply to a federally defined "antique" firearm for the purpose of dealer
licensing requirements, sales or loans between private parties, or requirements to obtain a Handgun
Safety Certificate pursuant to Penal Code sections 12070, 12071, subdivisions (b) (c) or (d) of
12072, or 12073. The term firearm does not apply to federally defined "curio" or "relic" long guns
over 50 years old for the purpose of transfers between private parties. (Penal Code ?? 12001(e),
    12078(t)(2).)

Is it a antique [made before 1899] or C&R pistol?

If selling a firearm, that is eligible to use a C&R FFL.
Is it exempt from the gun laws of California?

Exempt from all gun laws. No. It only means that (in the case of a long gun) you can have it shipped directly to you as a C&R holder rather than a CA dealer and having to go through the DROS (Dealer Record Of Sale) process. It is still a firearm.

So can I, a private individual, send a 1937-38 pistol to a C&R FFL holder without going thru DROS process?

Mark, does that "long gun" HAVE to be a C&R type rifle?

I thought that you were buying a gun and wanted to have to shipped to CA. You only do the DROS when you buy, not when you sell. You can ship a handgun 50 years or older, as well as certain pistols that are specifically listed by the BATFE as C&R, to a holder of a C&R FFL as long as it does not violate the laws of the buyers home state. You have to sue FedEx or UPS for shipping because private parties cannot mail handguns due to postal regulations.

Yes, a C&R FFL is not valid for use with non C&R firearms.
