What physical damage would you estimate to a human shot in the shoulder with a 45 colt? As in a western gun fight.

  Death, if not seen by a doctor for both.
  
  Depending on exactly what is hit it could be survivable.

  True, but the risk of death is still quite high.
  
  There's a large artery which passes through the shoulder and down into the arm. I've witnessed death occurring very quickly due to it being clipped.
