Sounds like a $300-500 rifle, assuming it has the original Stevens sights & has not been altered.

I agree with Neal as to the value.

I bought this one last year with sights for about $300. I added a Redfield 3200 target scope and have been very happy with it.

    Many thanks, guys.

Every photo that I have seen of these in the last four hours shows a blued finish. This one was parkerized.

I called him just now and told him of my research and your comments. I informed him that I did not want to put that much into it. He said "That's fine.", so I guess we are good - and I guess I did not put $1,000 into a $400 gun.

    Thanks, again.

    P.S. Anybody know where I can get a Stevens 416 U.S. Property rifle for $400? [:D] [:D] [:D]

Some are parkerized. $1000 is about double the current maximum price. You did the right thing by passing on this one.

I think I'd look on the GB auctions.

You might also want to look for at the Remington 541X, as they are in your price range, & a lot easier to find. (This model was only made for the US Military.)

Just keep looking at the auction side, sooner or later one will be over there for sale. I know it took about 6 months for one I was looking for to show up.

Yep, I will have to keep my eyes open for one of them.

I am just adding to the collection, as I already have the Remington 513T, Mossberg M-13, and Springfield M-1922. I have many duplicate M-1903s, Garands, Carbines, etc. I guess it is time to start working of the trainers.

Anyway, thanks everybody for your advice on this. I guess I don't have to make another trip to the gun show today, so it's off to work on the collection.
