How do you determine if an WWII Inland M1 carbine has matching parts?

    Look for the serifed, capital 'I'. Either MI, or KI, or PI (perhaps more, so long as the 'I' appears as part of the stamp). They are mostly subdivisions of Inland division of General Motors. (I think the PI may be a Packard offshoot). On stocks, the marking will appear inside the left slingwell..and underneath the handguard side rail.

    Remember to look for the 'I'. Barrels/receivers will have the complete name spelled out. Best, Joe

    First off, delete your duplicate posts. We're only allowed ten responses prior to auto lock-out on the experts forum. Now..

    Yes. Most winchester parts will have a little 'W' somewhere. There's also an un-serifed 'W', indicating the White manufacturing co. Saginaw will have a 'SG', or under subcontract within the company, to keep the same contract, 'S.G.'

    Rock-Ola will have an 'R' designation somewhere in the stamping. My magazines are stamped 'R-C'. Then there's International Business Machine (IBM). One of their identifiers is 'SY-B'.

    I'm rambling. Best to get the book. Too many permetations. Thanks, Joe

    You may want to invest in a copy of US M1 Carbines Wartime Production by Craig Riesch. It's an inexpensive paperback that lists all parts & has diagrams showing many of them.
