EAA Witness

I was looking at getting an eaa witness.
I've heard that the older ones in 9mm or .40 can't be converted to any other calibers, but the newer ones can be.
first is that true and second how can I tell a newer one from an older one?

    Folks, not looking for alot of BS,just general insight on the most recent manufactored Witness all steel pistols. I like the idea of being able to change slide/barrel and have another caliber. Especially the 22 conversion. Probaly start with a 10mm and buy extra barrel ASAP in 40 S&W. So the question actually is this; WHAT INHERENT PROBLEMS DO THESE PISTOLS HAVE? #2 HOW DIFFICULT IS THE TRIGGER TO CLEAN UP FOR SINGLE ACTION USE? Thanks

    I think the Witness steel pistols are some of the best values out there. With internal slide rails they are accurate and strong. I have been very pleased with the several that I have shot. I can't think of any problems with these.
    I have never done any trigger work on them. I have an early EA9 and the trigger pull is really nice on it. The second one we had we bought new and they had chnged to a straighter trigger which made the trigger pretty stiff. We sent it back and had them trade out the trigger for the curved one (which they have since gone back to) and it works great.
    I have been drooling over the Witness "Hunter" 10mm and would like to get one someday.

    i have the witness full-size 45acp in wonder finish. its 1 of my favorite pistols, very accurate, well made.

    I have a EAA Witness Sport I got about 1991 and have about 12,000rds. through it. The gun is almost as tight now as it was new. It was shot in matches for years. The trigger is very good as it came from the factory. I just sighted it in and shot it.

    For the money they are one of the best brands out there. I have a .45 and a .40cal. No hiccups, no complaints.

    had a 10mm and it work fine. only thing neg i have found is about the ones with the rounded slides, read they will crack.

    I've had my full size steel .45ACP for years, and has been nothing but ultra reliable. This is the handgun I would use if I knew I going somewhere nasty (along with a rifle, of course).     I echo Crawdogs sentiments to the letter. I've owned four different Witnesses - still have the full size 45 - all excellent AFTER sufficient break-in.
