Acquiring a Full Auto...
I live in Illinois, Not anywhere close to Crook County, or shiitecago. If I decide I would enjoy owning a Full-automatic weapon, What hoops will I have to jump through. Let's just pretend that money is not a factor. I'm trying to find out what legal BS I will have to navigate through to posess a Full-auto firearm. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

If I recall correctly there is no private ownership of machine guns in the state of Illinois. Dealers can posses full autos as sales samples but getting a federal firearms license and becoming a Special Occupational Tax Payer: Class 3, is costly and legally you can't obtains a licensed simply as a means of getting personal machine guns. I have no idea what a license to sell machine guns costs in Illinois, but I bet is that any such a license, if it is even obtainable for someone who does not currently have a storefront gun shop, is very expensive and subject to a tremendous numbers of restrictions. 0 -
I am an Illinois resident and am not aware of any restrictions on an individual owning a full auto outside of Cook County. Got to go through all the federal tax and paperwork. C&R Liscense makes it easier if the gun qualifies as a C&R. Still got to go through the Federal hoops. Any other Illinois guys know more than I think I do?? 0 -
If machine guns are legal in Illinois then take a look at this for background information on the needed steps in the National Firearms Act process.

I don't live in Illinois but as I read Chapter 720, Act 5, Article 24 (Deadly Weapons) 5/24-1(7)(i) it looks like machine guns are banned from sales, manufacture, purchase, possession, or carry and I don't find any mention of permits.
State laws on these issues are absolute nightmares to figure out. Does anyone know the Illinois regulations for sure, and by that I mean does anyone here living in Illinois actually have a machine gun?0 -
First move to a state where you still have 2nd amendment rights. Once you are a legal resident of idaho go to a dealer pick out the appropriate weapon, take paperwork to county sherif, have picture taken and submit fingerprints........ go home and wait and in a couple months. dealer will call for you to come pick up weapon. In states where you can own them it really is not that bad of a hassle. Illinois, No idea weather it is an option but I would be surprised. P.S. if you move to Idaho vote like an Idahoan or stay where your at. 0 -
Mark is correct.
See State Laws and Published Ordinances - Firearms (ATF5300.5) page 155, Article 24. You cannot possess a machine gun in IL.

You don't have to worry about those evil things.
YOUR state government is protecting you from them.

You would need to become a Class 3 dealer in IL to get them. Krebs Custom in Wauconda IL and I believe R-Guns in Elgin both have class 3 dealer licenses.
So it's not impossible to have FA in IL. I forget what the yearly fee for a Class 3 dealer is -- $1k or is it more?0 -
$500 for a Class 3 Special Occupational Tax plus the fees for a Type 01 FFL, which are about $300 ((and I don't want to start another fight on the yearly FFL fees so don't even bother to post on that)
in additional to whatever the costs are for dealer licenses and special permits in Illinois. Since you cannot obtain a dealer FFL for the sole purpose of enhancing your personal firearms collection you would have to demonstrate the ability to sell some machine guns and in Illinois that pretty much limits you to law enforcement sales. If you can't make any sales during the course of the first year you will not be allowed to continue your status as a Special Occupational taxpayer and your Class 3 status will be canceled. I am guessing that the situation in Illinois for MG dealers is very much like what we have here in CA: As a dealer you cannot own any transferable MGS, they all must be Post May restricted dealer sales samples, which means that when the day comes where you give up your FFL none of these MGs can be retained, they must be sold to another dealer or a PD.0 -

Using your CRFFL to purchase a FA doesn't remove or reduce any Fed paperwork. You still must have your Chief Law Enforcement Officer in your county sign off on your Form 4.
Even though Florida is a FA state, the local county sheriffs are reluctant to sign off on the Form 4. I ended up using a Revocable Trust and don't even bother using my CRFFL for FA.0
