Is suppressor damaging to SMG?
This might be a silly question as I know military and police use them, but can a suppressor cause damage to a SMG inasmuch as what it seems to do is contain the exploding gasses from freely dispersing into the air, doesn't that cause a pressure backup that could blow back into the action acclerating the action itself or blowing back harmful gasses into the action?

Well does you muffler hurt you car? A silencer does the same thing.
The silencer does not contain the exploding gasses, it makes the release slower. Think of popping a ballon vs letting the air out of one.
Yes silences do increase pressure in an action. If you do a lot of silencer shooting you can tune your gun to it just like you can tune it for special handloads. Think about the guys handloading for IDPA pistols they tweek an tune things to run the best they can on that special load they want to use. Most guns have enough strength that a little extra pressure will not hurt them.
There are some guns that have problems running in the first place like short auto (semi or full) rifles and messing with the pressure curve can make it better or worse. There are also guns like the M1A that needs a certain pressure curve and if outside that range can damage the operation rod.
One thing that silencers does is make a huge mess in your action. Silenced guns can not go as long between cleanings as without. I have a 1911/22 suppressed that after about 300rds starts having issues and is done by 500rds.0 -
The real damage from full automatic fire is almost always to the suppressor itself and many suppressor manufacturers "discourage" full auto fire through their units. Open bolt SMGs will often increase their rate of fire due to an increase in pressures, but most closed bolt guns show few if any effects. 0
