Marlin MR-7 Question
I picked up a very nice Marlin MR-7 in .270 caliber yesterday from a local store's used gun rack. It cleaned up nicely but I don't like the Weaver bases/rings. Which one-piece Leupold or Redfield base does it take, the one for a Win. Model 70 or a Remington 700, or something else? The bolt looks like a Remington with a Ruger handle, the trigger and safety looks like a Winchester, and the magazine is similar to a Browning A-Bolt. Not a bad looking rifle at all. I plan to put an old Redfield 1-5x Widefield on it. I wonder why this rifle didn't sell and was discontinued? Any problems or recalls?

Weaver bases will have the ID number on them. You should be able to find the numbers off the Weaver bases that were on the rifle and translate that to the ones you want. 0 -

I have two MR-7's. They take Winchester 70 bases. They are, as you noted, very nice rifles. Mine are in .270 and .280 Remington and both are very accurate. There were no problems or recalls, I believe that the Winchester, Remington and Ruger were just too well entrenched for another bolt action rifle to compete. I am sure that you will like yours.
Edit:Incidently, both of mine wear the old fixed Bausch & Lomb 4X scopes in B & L adjustable mounts.0 -
