pre 64 winchester blue ?

Ive run across a mod 70 '53 vintage that looks unloved , price is right, action runs good and rifling looks good in sun thru my old eyes. stock was chopped and a recoil pad was nailed on but there is no pitting but blue is gone, Im gonna make it a project. my ? being would rust blue be OK? Im not set up for hot blue and did a .22 in rust blue many years ago with good results. How do you keep the matte look on the action? not that it matters but the gun is .270. Im also trolling for an uncut stock. I got a great one here a month or so ago.thanks[;)]

  The finish you end up with depends on the finish you start with. A nice light glass beading (small beads) will produce a finish very similar to the original.

  The Rust Blue that I've been doing for many years has always started with surface metal preparation and then a light bead blast right before starting the rust cycles. The carding knocks down the dullness of the bead blasting some and usually leaves a luster finish as opposed to a shiny finish. All-in-all, it's a very classy/classic looking finish.
