Montgomery Ward Western Field Model 31 Value PICS!
I have a Montgomery Ward Western Field Model 31 12 ga. I received from my Grandad. The finish is a little worn. I am curious what it is worth and any history someone may know about them. It has the browning patent stamp on the barrel that is mentioned frequently with the MW guns.

Dad had one for years. It's a takedown if you didn't already know. Dad's became so worn that the safety could be pushed forward about halfway and the trigger could be pulled with the firing pin dropping part of the way. The gun wouldn't fire, and it couldn't be opened. Pushing forward very hard on the safety would allow the firing pin to drop,setting the gun off! A friend of mine using the gun while we were hunting, almost shot me in the head. + 1 on the $75-$150. 0 -
Members are right. It should be a Stevens 520, which takes down by turning the mag tube to back out a spacer in front of the receiver and then slide the barrel & mag tube downward. Make sure you measure the chamber to see if it is 2 9/16" or 2 3/4" (fired length.) 0 -
I had one of the original Stevens 520's in 16 Gauge, years ago. Same as yours other then markings and gauge. John Browning designed it in the early years of the 20th Century. Because of this his name was used on the barrel. These Model 520's shotguns had a long life, being made as late as WW II for use by the U.S. military. 0 -
note; the "brownings pat." referes to the locking bolt system (same used on the a-5 et al) that savage/stevens licensed from browning. 0 -
